John Cameron Mitchell is an American actor, playwright, screenwriter, and director. He was born on April 21, 1963, in El Paso, Texas. He developed a passion for acting at a young age and landed his first stage role as the Virgin Mary in a Nativity musical held in the Scottish Benedictine boys’ boarding school.
His first professional theater role came in a 1985 production of Huckleberry Finn by Organic Theater at Chicago’s Goodman Theatre. He then landed his debut New York acting role as Huck Finn from the Broadway production of Big River.
His career progressed on Broadway and he was soon playing major roles like Dickon on Broadway in The Secret Garden.
He was a member of the original cast of the Broadway production Hello Again and was nominated Drama Desk award. His original cast recordings for each part are still played at events.
