[ Cheers and applause ] I grew up reading a lot and reading a lot of fiction, and that was always my favorite pastime.

It was just discovering a new world and being put somewhere else and seeing little bits of the author in the characters, but knowing that they were characters.

And that's something that I wanted to do in my songwriting was to create stories and create worlds and allow parts of myself to be figured out through these stories, but not have -- to be bound by my own character arc.

I wanted to make sure I could always be imaginative and creative, and writing songs like "Dial Drunk" and songs that allow me to approach a situation from someone else's lens is a really great way to express myself creatively and to, you know, allow myself to feel like I'm reading a book again, like I was a kid.
